Position Summary
The Manager, Operations SMS is responsible for the incorporation, administration, and management of the Director of Operations and Regulatory Compliance functions within JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS). The Manager facilitates the Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program (VDRP) and organizational responses to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Compliance Action, various FAA notices and other Safety Assurance (SA) inputs resulting from FAA and international regulatory oversight within the organization, and ensures SMS integration therein.
Essential Responsibilities
- Implements, administers, and maintains the Director of Operations’ (DO) SMS in conjunction with the Safety Department.
- Serves as the primary resource for, and maintains general oversight of, SMS safety assurance inputs resulting from regulatory compliance initiatives, voluntary disclosures and regulatory oversight activity.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Certificate Management Office (CMO) and acts as a point of contact for the oversight of SMS activity.
- Facilitates Risk Working Groups and Joint Safety Review Boards while ensuring risks, risk levels, mitigating actions and departmental change management processes are tracked and documented.
- Leads the DO Change Management processes including coordinating corrective/mitigating action implementation. Manages implementation and project schedules and identifies and sequences the activities needed to implement change; coordinates required intra- and inter-departmental stakeholders to ensure change management project milestones and timelines are met.
- Facilitates the Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program investigation protocol in conjunction with organizational investigatory teams. Reviews safety incidents, conducts investigation as required by the protocol; performs root cause analysis and hazard/risk identification to assist in the recommendation and establishment of mitigating controls when required.
- In coordination with the Safety Department and Quality Management System teams, leads the coordination of related gap analyses and audits for the DO and serves as the department’s ‘in-audit’ coordinator. Reviews proposed departmental changes, provides feedback and recommendations, and ensures ongoing compliance with recommended industry practices related to audit requirements.
- Ensures the DO and Safety Leadership are apprised of all identified significant safety issues and trends.
- Reviews, tracks, analyzes, and trends key performance indicators and related safety and regulatory compliance data.
- Represent the DO’s office during IROP (Irregular Operations) and Emergency Command Center (ECC) events.
- Participates in regular meetings with Safety Department Leadership as requested. Supervisory duties of assigned crewmembers.
- Takes a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, goal achievement.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
